About rmmetadata

rmmetadata is a free, browser-based tool for removing supported metadata from everyday files. It is built around one practical idea: you should be able to share a file without sharing unnecessary information about yourself.

Simple by design

There is no account to create. Select a supported file, run the cleaner, review its report, and download a new copy. Your original stays untouched. Processing takes place inside your browser, rather than on a file-processing server.

Honest about its scope

Different formats store information in different ways. rmmetadata targets the blocks documented in our format guide. Required rendering information may be retained. It does not promise to erase every trace of a file’s origin, remove watermarks, or prevent detection of AI-generated content.

A tool, not a redaction service

Removing metadata is one step in safer sharing. Names in document text, recognizable faces, annotations, and embedded files remain part of the content. Review the actual file as well as its metadata before publishing it.
